Conference of bishops of Vietnam – 1st Annual Meeting 2022 (April 25-29, 2022)

(CGOL) The Vietnam Bishops’ Conference conducted the 1st Annual Meeting of 2022 at the Bishop’s Palace of Thai Binh, from Monday’s  afternoon, April 25, 2022 to Friday, April 29, 2022, with the participation of a large number members of the Bishops’ Conference, except for the Bishop of Nha Trang diocese, who are absent due to health reasons.

With joy, the Bishops’ Conference welcomed the delegation of the Holy See including: Monsignor Miroslaw Stanislaw Wachowski, Deputy Foreign Minister; Monsignor Francis Cao Minh Dung, official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; priest Han Hyuntaek, official of the Congregation for the Evangelization of the Gospels. Archbishop Marek Zalewski, the Pope’s representative to Vietnam, was present with the Holy See delegation on this occasion.

The Bishops’ Conference was pleased to listen the sharing of the Holy See’s  delegation about the visit and working with Vietnam, about the very active contributions of all members of God’s people in Vietnam in activities from charity, especially during the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. These are living testimonies of the Gospel.

During this meeting, Archbishop Marek Zalewski presented his reflections and practices for the Encyclical “Fratelli Tutti” (All Brothers) and the Motu Proprio “Vos estis lux mundi” (You Are Light of the World) by Pope Francis.

The Bishops’ Conference congratulates Bishop Joseph Do Quang Khang on his appointment as Coadjutor Bishop of  Bac Ninh Diocese by the Holy Father; Bishop Dominic Hoang Minh Tien, Archbishop of Hung Hoa Diocese; Bishop Vinh Son Nguyen Van Ban, Archbishop of Hai Phong Diocese.

During this Conference, the Bishops’ Conference:

1. Discuss the program and content for the upcoming 15th General Assembly of the Conference of Bishops.
2. Share on progress and make comments for the Synod Report on the diocesan and national level: “Towards a Cooperative Church: Communion, Participation and Mission”.
3. Approving the translation of the four Gospels by the Biblical committee of the Vietnamese Bishops’ Conference; translation of the Roman Missal in J’rai of the Kontum Diocese.
4. Continue to discuss the process of beatification and canonization of two Servants of God, Bishop François Pallu and Bishop Lambert de la Motte.
5. Give the Committee on Doctrine of the Faith to draft the “announcement” on the “Bao Loc Exorcist Group”;
6. Talk about:

– The 3rd International Congress of Catechists in Rome, 9-10 September 2022;

– Participation in the World Meeting of Families in Rome in June 2022;

– The celebration of the 400th anniversary of the establishment of the Congregation for the Evangelization of the Gospels;

– The Rite of Accepting a Catechist Minister;

– Digitization data scheme;

– “Holy Land Fund” and “St Peter’s Coin”.

The Conference of Bishops has determined that the 15th Congress will be held at the Archdiocese of Hanoi, from October 10, 2022 to October 14, 2022.

The Bishops’ Conference ended happily with Thai Binh Diocese celebrated Thanksgiving Mass on the 85th anniversary of the diocese’s founding (1936 – 2021).
